Item 034. `Tudor' velvet evening coat/jacket.
A Tudor-style velvet evening coat/jacket with sequin/embroidery trim on the shoulders (puts me in mind of Henry VIII; perhaps I'm watching too much TV). This is a most unusual item, made of loads of (what I believe is) thick, fine quality, black cotton velvet. I'm guessing (by the huge shoulders, and bulky `batwing' shape) this to be 1980s. Made by Hayley J, who I think is a bespoke wedding couturier (but I may be wrong!) There is a pretty gold tracery design on the shoulders, highlighted with bronze sequins (some could do with a bit of tightening perhaps, but that may be part of the design). It is coat length at the back, curving up at the front. Marked `Dry clean only'. Fully lined. To close the front, you'd need to be 14 or below, but to wear it loose (there are no fastenings), you could be a lot larger. In my view, it would look best on about an 18.
